Instagram updates their Icon and UI, Internet freaks out.
Instagram announced on their Blog on May 11th (Wednesday) that the App is getting a new look – A brand new User Interface (UI) and Icon. We quickly went to the App store to find the new update and a couple of minutes later, we got the new updated App.
The popular photo sharing app revised their icon first — the one which resembled a polaroid camera with rainbow stripes — and replaced it with a square shape which outlines a camera and goes along the flat design trend, popular these days. Though it was sleek and minimalistic, many users found it basic and the colorful gradient background distracting.
Instagram wrote on their on their Blog – ” Today we’re introducing a new look. You’ll see an updated icon and app design for Instagram. Inspired by the previous app icon, the new one represents a simpler camera and the rainbow lives on in gradient form. You’ll also see updated icons for our other creative apps: Layout, Boomerang and Hyperlapse”
The reason behind the change, as per the official blog was that simpler design puts more focus on user’s photos and videos without changing how they navigate the app.
Just like the Uber re-branding which had led to a global outrage, many users did not approve of this change. Some users went to twitter and shared their thoughts said:
